CropX Rain Gauge installation instructions 

Introduction 

This manual provides step-by-step instructions for installing a CropX rain gauge in your field. 


**Note: Prior to installing your sensor, you should complete the user registration and set up your farms & fields. 

 

CropX rain gauge kit contents:

  • Material: ASA/Styrosun 

 

 

  • Tipping bucket box + pedestal and pole mount. 
    - box: width x dept: 3.9'' x 1.9''  (100 mm x 50 mm) 

  • Resolution of tipping bucket: 0.2 mm 

 

 

  • Bird spikes 6x 

- 

  • Sensor cable already attached to rain gauge box with loose wires on the end that connects to the telemetry unit.

Step 1: Setting Up 

  • Go to the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store, search for CropX Farm Management, and download the app to your phone. 

  • Launch the CropX app by clicking on the CropX icon & create an account. 

  • If you have yet to add a new field, you may do so by clicking on the ‘add a new field’ sign at the first screen and following the instructions. 

  • Once you have created a field, click on the + symbol at the top of your screen to add a sensor. 

  • Follow the interactive installation guide. 

 

**Note: Allow the system to use your mobile device’s Bluetooth & Location Services, when prompted. 

Step 2: Rain Gauge installation 

Although the CropX Telemetry ships with a fully charged battery that should last the whole season, we recommend charging your batteries for 10 hours prior to installation, using the USB cable provided (see charging instructions on the last page).  

Please ensure you have the following for installation: 

  • CropX Rain Gauge kit 

Customer to provide: 

  • A smartphone 

  • Level 

  • Pole with a diameter of 1.26'' – 1.97'' (32-50mm) 

  • Hexagonal socket wrench; size 7 mm or a flat screwdriver to fasten the hose clamps; 

  • Flat screwdriver to fasten wires into the connector

  • 2 - Hose clamps - Size Adjustable 1.26" - 1.97" (32 - 50 mm)

 

To Install the rain gauge:  

**Warning: Never attach the rain gauge and/or telemetry unit to the pole before installing/hammering the pole in the ground. 

  • Insert a pole in the ground (with a diameter of 1.26'' – 1.97'' (32-50mm). 

  • Make sure the pole is plumb. 

  • From the Tipping bucket box, pull the tab, cut the "safety rubber band" and attach the Rain gauge funnel.



  • Attach the Rain gauge and Telemetry unit to the pole using hose clamps. 

  • Attach the rain gauge cable to the “Pulse A” input of the telemetry unit.

  • Gently guide the cable through the integrated strain reliefs. 
    - connect the brown or blue wire to input labeled “signal” 
    - connect the white or black wire to input labeled “GND” 

  • Attach the antenna to the telemetry unit and confirm that the antenna connections are tight. 



 

Uninstalling the rain gauge 

  • Using the app, click on the sensors tab, find the rain gauge and click the 3-dot action menu, then click Deactivate. 

  • Use the hexagonal size 7 mm or a flat screwdriver to loosen the hose clamps.  

  • Disconnect wires using the small flat screwdriver 

  • After removing the sensor, keep the rain gauge in a safe and dry place and charge it prior to the next installation. 
     

**Note: In addition to the physical uninstallation of the rain gauge, it should also be deactivated from the App. 

  

Charging the CropX Telemetry 

  • Gently pull the two clips on the side of the telemetry unit to open the cover. 

  • Remove the battery. 

  • Connect the USB cable to the USB cable port (cable provided) and connect to a certified UL/CE USB power adapter. 

  • Allow the battery to fully charge for at least 10 hours.

    Dispose used batteries according the local regulations.
