Understanding Machine Data in CropX

The CropX machine data feature allows you to import data from most farm machinery for easier management and visualization. Imported machine data can also be used in CropX’s Variable Rate Irrigation (VRI) tool to improve water usage and crop yield.

Benefits of Machine Data Integration

Yield map analysis

Uploading machine data into CropX allows you to analyze yield across a Field and identify areas that performed better or worse.

Variable rate application analysis

Compare variable rate application maps or as-applied maps with in-season imagery showing crop progress.

Variable rate irrigation control

Machine data can be displayed as a background layer in CropX’s Variable Rate Irrigation (VRI) tool. This allows you to apply optimal water depth by changing pivot speed by sector.
You can set a base rate manually or adjust it by sector using machine data as a background layer, similar to a soil scan.

Map overlay feature

Compare machine data with imagery or soil types using the overlay feature.

Precise scouting

View machine data while scouting in the Field. A GPS icon shows your location on the machine data map as you walk the Field, helping you investigate specific points of interest.

How to Upload Machine Data into CropX

Uploading machine data is available only in the web App. Viewing machine data is available in both the web and the mobile App.

  1. Log in to the CropX App on a computer at https://myfarm.cropx.com/login

  2. Select the green New + button in the top-right corner.

  3. Select Machine Data from the drop-down menu.

  4. Select a file to upload and follow the on-screen prompts.

Supported File Types

XML (ISOBUS)

Generated by tractors that comply with the ISO-11783 standard.
The file must be a ZIP file containing:

  • A file named TASKDATA.XML

  • One or more .BIN files

CSV

Plain text files using a comma, semicolon, or tab as a separator.
Requirements:

  • Must have a .csv extension

  • Must include coordinate columns named:

    • lat or latitude

    • lon or longitude

  • Coordinates must use EPSG 4326 (degrees)

  • A timestamp column may be included and must be named one of the following:

    • date (yymmdd) and time (hh:mm:ss)

    • Timestamp (for example, 2018-05-18T11:47:22.234)

    • year, month, day, hr, min, sec

SHP

Only shapefiles containing point data are supported.
The file must be uploaded as a ZIP containing:

  • .shp

  • .dbf

  • .shx

  • .prj

TIFF

Only specific TIFF files are supported.
The file must:

  • Contain one band (except RGB)

  • Include one of the following strings in the filename:
rgb, mosaic, savi, lai, ndre, dsm, ci_red, temperature, thermal, wdvi, or ndvi

CNH

Proprietary CNH file formats produced by CNH machines.
Requirements:

  • A .cn1 file must be uploaded in a ZIP file

  • It may be combined with XML (ISOBUS) files in the same ZIP if a TASKDATA folder is included with a TASKDATA.XML file

Machine Data Control

The Machine Data page shows a list of all imported machine data associated with your CropX account. You can see whether the data overlaps with one of your fields and how many measurements are available. You can also select a measurement to display it on the map.

Advanced Options For Machine Data Files

Depending on the file type, you can:

  • Delete file

  • Download file

  • Show original file (by default, only the portion overlapping a Field is displayed)

  • Create field (based on the boundary of the measurements)

  • Go to field (to view machine data with imagery or other spatial layers)
